Willie Nelson/Mickey Newbury and the Rainbow Connection |
||||
Release Date June 12th |
Newbury penned one of Nelson's earlier hits, SWEET MEMORIES. When Newbury was asked what he thought of Nelson's treatment of two of his vintage songs there was a long pause then Newbury dead-panned, "Not bad. For a hillbilly singer." "Now be sure you tell him I said that," Newbury said with a delighted chuckle, then he talked with great enthusiasm about how he was completely blown away by Nelson's arrangement, saying Nelson had managed to put a totally new twist on both songs. Newbury admitted that "Just Dropped In" had never been one of his own personal favorites among the songs he's written. Nelson has given him a new appreciation for the song. "A truly great artist can take a bad song and make it sound good through creative interpretation," Newbury explained. "Roy Orbison, could do that, and Ray Charles and a few others do it. This what Willie has done. He has completely reinterpreted "Just Dropped In." "This is how I will be singing it in the future," Newbury concluded. |
